Spotted Sea Trout

Spotted Sea Trout are found most in the back country and are usually feeding. Their big mouths and prominent canine teeth get that job done well. After their surface thrashing is over they are great on the dinner table! One of the most abundant fish in the Florida Keys backcountry and bay waters of SW Florida, speckled sea trout will aggressively feed on all types of artificial lures as well as natural bait. On ultra light and fly tackle they are “crazy” fighters. During the winter months you can expect to catch trout that average 2-4 pounds with some in excess of 6 pounds. Although peak season for trout is in the cooler winter months, they can be found year round. Trout are primarily found on grass beds or in mullet muds. If you specifically target these fish, it is not unheard of to expect to catch as many as 30 fish in a day
